The MTAC Certificate of Merit® Program is the intellectual property of the Music Teachers' Association of California which reserves all rights thereto. Participation in the MTAC Certification of Merit® program is extended only to qualified classes of MTAC members, who are in good standing, and may only be used and administered in the state of California.

Certificate of Merit is a total musicianship program. Students registered in the Certificate of Merit program undertake a music performance evaluation (CM Evaluations) offered annually by MTAC and adjudicated by MTAC-trained evaluates. Students who have successfully achieved the specified requirements for the registered level of music study receive an evaluation report and are awarded a certificate of merit. The Certificate of Merit program also effect advanced performance opportunities for high-achieving student performers.

Goals of Certificate of Merit ®
To provide a systematic and comprehensive plan to develop performance skills, technique, ear training and sight-reading skills, and understanding of music theory. To provide practical goals to help students maintain a steady and focused approach to their studies. To encourage students to strive for musical excellence.
